Kindergarten Field Trip
Friday was a great trip for the Martin Luther Academy Kindergarten class! We went down to the Nelson Atkins Art Museum and toured Mythical Creatures and then the class had their own time to create their own mythical creatures as well. Some with two heads, or five faces, many with scales and swirlies, lots of colors with different textured papers and craypas and then they painted over them with water colors. The kids really had a great time with this activity and really enjoyed their tour as well!
Without express permission from their parents, I did not share photos of any other kids during their trip- enjoy some of the sites from the gallery instead!

Major change for rental property in KCMO-please read!
Rental dwelling registration program
Neighborhood and Community Services Department
Registration
In October 2007, ordinance No. 071046 was passed requiring that all rental housing units within the City limits of Kansas City, Mo., be registered with the City starting Jan. 1, 2008. You may register your units anytime during January 2008 without penalty. A $50 per month fine for failure to register will begin Feb. 1, 2008.
A rental dwelling is any property that contains a dwelling or rooming unit that is being offered for rent or is being rented or occupied by any person who is not the owner of the premises. However, property occupied by a child, grandchild, mother, father, sibling, mother-in-law, father-in-law or grandparent of the owner is not considered rental property. In addition, duplex dwellings in which one of the units is owner-occupied are not considered rental dwellings for the purposes of this program.
Beginning Jan. 1, online registration became available (please read the application instructions prior to online registration). Applications can also be printed from this site and submitted by mail or in person. Applications are available at the Neighborhood Preservation Division office at 4900 Swope Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64130. Registration of rental properties is keyed to the ownership of each property. You may register several properties on one application as long as they are under one ownership.
Registration is required on a calendar year basis and will expire each Dec. 31. Applications for renewal will be accepted beginning each Jan. 1.
Inspection
Rental dwellings located in designated target areas must also be inspected for compliance with the City’s nuisance and property maintenance codes. The target neighborhoods have not yet been designated by the City Council. Inspections will begin May 1, 2008.
If your property is located in one of the target neighborhoods, the Neighborhood Preservation Division will contact you to schedule an exterior inspection of the building and grounds, and an interior inspection of any vacant units.
For more information about the Rental Registration and Inspection Program, call the Neighborhood Preservation Division, (816) 513-9010.

A New Year's Resolution?!
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.
The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste
At the holiday parties had gone to my waist.
When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).
I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,
The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."
As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt
I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"
So away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip
Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
"Till all the additional ounces have vanished.
I won't have a cookie - not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.
I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.
I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore
But isn't that what January is for?
Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

Christmas Updates...
A few more Christmas favorites- just for fun!
Daddy helped make the Gingerbread house while they decorated! YUM!
I just loved this picture of my tired little Princess who got all "dressed up," literally, for Christmas Eve Services.
Our cute little Elf on Christmas morning!Elf #2 on "Santa daddy's" lap and posing for the camera Christmas morning?! I know that couldn't be Bella?!
Some of our favorite gifts:
Me: a GPS- finally!!! Now, if I could just work out all the kinks... :O)
Tony: probably just a whole day off without any "honey-do's" and I think the "family gift" that Santa brought, that fills our entire play room- An Official ESPN Air Hockey Table! (As if he'll ever actually have or take the time to play it.)
Anthony: Darth Vader to Death Star Transformer and other various Star Wars Transformers
Bella: Emma- her new baby that responds to "mommy" and reacts w/ her bottle, blanket and bear, plus the other four babies she got- especially baby "Princess Leah" that came with a walker with a feeding table and her own plush carrier, which she bought after Christmas with her own Christmas money!
Speaking of which- who would have ever thought that a 4 and 5 year old could have so much fun spending "their own" money! Mom had to pick up the tax of course, but they really had fun shopping and budgeting for their own thing. But come on, they just got like a hundred new toys, I would have thought it should have been harder to find something that they didn't already have?! But no, it's just amazing how that list goes on and on.

Goodbye Scott...
Holiday Preparations....

From pigtails for daddy's birthday to finally getting to sit on Santa's lap.... this month has just FLOWN by! I think the Miracle On Main Street played a big part with that, but it was sooooo worth it! Honestly, how could anyone resist the cutest little shepherd up there?! And tomorrow night he'll preform once again in his school's Christmas program as well! So with a night off tonight, we took advantage of the weeknight and the good weather and headed downtown to visit the best Santa in town at Crown Center! Uncle Jay even went! We met Sarah and Christopher there as well- it's sort of become a family tradition! And thankfully Sarah and Anthony could fill each other's sibling absense on Santa's lap as well! And after a small melt down from Bella because we couldn't stay and play any longer and then after realizing that by not sitting on Santa's lap he wouldn't know what she wanted for Christmas, I had to promise to help her write a letter to him that we could send to the North Pole right away!! That seemed to help make everything better, plus of course the promise of food.... :O)More Extreme Lights

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like CHRISTmas!

Waukomis Drive- South of 68th Street (plus 3 close-ups)

Ok, so did I pick a great time to decide to wanna do a Holiday Lights Tour or what?! I swear, as soon as I sent my emails and made my post, we entered into a winter twilight zone?! The ice storm fortunately wasn't nearly as bad as they had predicted was actually quite a beautiful scene. However, it did make for quite the catastophic event just North of us in St. Joseph, MO and shut things down for a while here too. At least we never lost power here (at my house) and we kept busy with plenty to do around the house too! We made our gifts for the grandparents and teachers (at least we started them) and some cookie dough and crafts too..... Hopefully this weekend we can even finish what we started!?
Anyway.... we finally made it out of the house yesterday, for Anthony's Christmas Musical dress rehearsal and tried to get some pictures of a couple of Extreme Lights ~only to find out that those pictures are a little harder to take than one might think!! Of course, a few obstacles like busy roads and kids in the backseat of the minivan always help! And the snow coming down and wanting to get in the shot was a little distracting too for some reason! But still, you get the jist....
Enjoy and keep the stories and locations coming!! I will do my best to get out and about and shoot what I can.

The Northlands Extreme Tacky Lights Tour
I'd just love to get something like this started here in the Kansas City Northland area. I know I have always enjoyed driving around and looking at the lights and now especially in sharing this time with the kids and to see the wonder in their eyes as they see them too. But how much more fun would it be to actually track these amazing homes that really go all out and to route it and show them off?! I think it'll be great and I can't wait to see all the entries come pouring in! So, send me your stories, your interviews, your pictures and addresses too so that we can create our own Northland Extreme Lights Tour....... it'll be fun!
